Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
