Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
